New Year Beliefs and Superstitions!

Hours to go and we will embracing the coming of another year. And during these times, different beliefs and superstitions were practiced by our family.

I really grew up with these beliefs every new year. And we follow these Filipino new year's practice to push away 'malas' and let the 'swerte' come in!

I list down some of the "Pinoy Pamahiin" every new year. Which of these do you follow and which are not?! I list them down in Filipino dialect:

1. Pagsusuot ng Polka Dots (my mom does).

2. Pagpapaputok (a big NO! But a big YES after new year or in ordinary times)!

3. Pag-kumpleto sa isang-dosenang prutas (a big quest to all of us to complete).

4. Pagpapagulong ng mga bilog na prutas (we laughed every time my mom does).

5. Pagsasabog ng mga barya sa lahat ng sulok ng bahay (then my brother steal it afterwards).

6.  Pagpapa-apaw ng tubig sa balde (I wonder how much water was lost).

7. Pagtalon habang nagpapalit ang taon (well, it's not anymore applicable in my case).

8. Paglalagay ng bills sa wallet (I did even not in New Year).

9. Paghahanda ng marami sa hapag (we always do even not in New Year).

10. Pag-iingay ng todo in any means ( radio and kaldero will do)!

And of course, we stay in our home in welcoming the new year!

These are some of those practices I knew. What else can you add?! Do you also believe in those things listed?!

A Night of Halloween!

Today is another October 31! And this day is another popular day to all of us. As they say, this day is the so-called "bimperas ng araw ng mga patay"!

Since I was I child, I know that this night is the night wherein the souls of our departed love ones visited us. Yeah, it's such a frightening night since their souls return in our home to remind us that tomorrow is their day. A day for us to visit them!

It seems true! I already had experiences pertaining to this beliefs.

The first one was during college. It was a Halloween night in our previous rented home. The grandparents of our neighbor were already dead. They believe that during a night like this, their souls visited them. They have dogs. And we know that if a dog do an 'alulong' sound, it sees a ghost! And that very night, their dog eventually 'umalulong' saying "awooohhh"!!! That made me believed that the souls of their love ones already came and visited them!

Another experience is just this day. Yup, only this morning!

You know that my beloved auntie already passed away last August 23, 2010. And just this morning, I had a dream. I was watching TV particularly a Willie Revillame's "Wowowee". Then my auntie came in my room. I said to her that my eyes were tired. She touched and massage my eyes to heal. I also complained to her that I experienced some health disorder. Then she said, she has no power to heal. But still she keeps on massaging my eyes.

Before she go, I told her that I already bought my laptop. She was very happy to see my new laptop. She even asked me to teach her play a game with my new laptop. I even introduced to her my little black stuff toy kitten. I say she's the child of Miming Negro!

When she leaved my room, I eventually woke up. It seems so very real! I didn't thought that it was just a dream! My auntie just visited me today through my dream!

Hayz...that were some of my real life experience pertaining to Halloween, a night where souls visited their remaining love ones based on our beliefs!

But in other countries like in Canada and US, Halloween is a night for kids, another party celebration! Trick or treats and costume parties were some of the activities they annually celebrated!

So, let's spend this night according to what we believe! Again, let me greeted you with:

Happy Halloween!

At Home with Tigers!

It's already year of the tiger! Tiger is everywhere! Just like the Chinese beliefs every new year, you should have the animal who owns the year. And it's much better if that animal is your gift to the other person. That's why every opening of the year, malls, markets, and lucky charm shops were all selling the animal horoscope of the year. It's a sign of good luck and charm as indicated by the Chinese beliefs!

But in our home, look what we got! It's tiger, tiger, tiger...! It's tiger everywhere!

Really Tame and Lovable Pets

Reddy and Spotty Love to Play and Play

My two tiger pets Reddy and Spotty were really happy as they know that they were the bida of the year! They were such a 'bibo' type of pets to have! Again, they love to roam around our home and play everything they like! But don't get afraid as they were truly tame and kind to everyone! You could hug and handle them!

What other more tigers we have? Then let's see!

I Love this Tiger Display!

The World of Tiger!

One of the Beautiful Tiger Calendar!

As you see it yourself, we had lots of tiger displays! Red tigers for the lucky house!

We have lots of tiger calendar! We bought some of them while some where given by friends! Look at them as they dominate our walls and our display areas! What can you say?!

So as we enter the year of the tiger, are you convinced that having a tiger image in your home or in your working area could bring lots of lucks? Hmmm....!!!

But if I were to ask, I really love tigers! I like them! I love the cute little tiger stuffs and the pictures of them! I remember during my childhood in our previous home, we had a beautiful tiger carpet! But we couldn't have it anymore since they were stolen! And talking more of the tiger, during collage, my experiment papers were full of tiger arts and design which enabled me to got the highest grade because of these tigers! Tiger then was became my trademark!

So, hope you had fun as we enter the year of the tiger!!! c",)
