What Is Child Acting Like Today?

With minimal child labor laws during the early days of Hollywood, child stars had it rough. When they misbehaved, studio employees locked them up in windowless sound rooms, giving them only a block of ice to sit on. When Shirley Temple was just 12 years old, an MGM producer threw her out after she giggled when he exposed himself to her. Judy Garland was given amphetamines to keep going as a teenager, which ultimately led to her addiction and early death from an overdose at the age of 47, as an article on the dark origins of Hollywood stardom notes.

Fortunately, things have changed significantly since then. While it still requires hard work, there are laws and rules in place that must be followed by producers and anyone else working with a child actor on the set today. Even child stars who are emancipated minors require following certain rules with California Labor Laws very clear as to how they are treated. They've been put in place to protect the kids as well as the filmmakers and include requirements like half-hour meal breaks and getting at least an hour of recreation time on the set.

While being a child actor can be challenging due to busy schedules, perhaps having to turn down invites to birthday parties and the like, it can also bring many benefits.

Public Speaking Experience

Child actors are practicing public speaking whenever they're standing in front of a casting director auditioning or performing to a sold-out house. That translates to an adult who is comfortable speaking in front of people, which can be a huge benefit personally and professionally in many careers in addition to acting.

Greater Self-Confidence

Confidence is important for school, careers, relationships, and life as a whole. Acting is a great way for young people to understand how to think outside of the box, appraise situations and be more confident when going into unfamiliar situations. They learn to trust in their abilities and their ideas, which can help them go far, even if it's not a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Memory Skills

Memory is a skill that takes a lot of practice, including memorizing lines. The tricks child actors have to use to remember their lines are going to be invaluable when it comes to studying for tests in school or simply remembering the names of people they meet at a business conference as adults.

Communication Skills

Acting is all about communication, bringing the opportunity to improve both verbal and nonverbal communication skills, which benefit young people throughout their lives. It can improve their tone of speech and articulation as well as observation and listening skills.

Strong Work Ethic

Kids in the acting business naturally learn at a much younger age the importance of being on time and prepared for an audition or a booking. If they aren't, they will understand quickly that arriving late on the set or goofing around is something that will get you fired. That's a lesson far better learned early on than as an adult when it can have more serious consequences. 03/31/2021 (Bits of Rocks)

It's Great to be Back with Ivan Dorschner #MeantToBe

After four years, the "PBB Teen Clash of 2010,"  ex-housemate Ivan Doschner returns to showbiz! And yes, after exactly four years, Rocky and Ivan met again!

Ivan and I first met in November 2012 during the premiere night of the Star Cinema movie "24/7 in Love."  I was wearing a stripe shirt then. He exit showbiz for the meantime to focus on his studies.

December 2016, we met again! This is during the GMA Bloggers' Christmas Party wherein they were the special guests to promote their newest romance-comedy series "Meant To Be."  And yes, Ivan still remembers me as well as my stripe shirt that I was wearing when we first met!

"Yeah I remember you. You are wearing a stripe shirt. And now, you are still wearing a stripe shirt," Ivan recalled during our meetup!

Just like before, here are a set of my selfie photos with Ivan Dorschner:

I also have an exclusive one-on-one video interview with Ivan sharing his showbiz comeback, career plans, and fitness regimens! The said video is now uploaded in my official YouTube Channel and will be posted in my fitness blog Runner Rocky.

And did you know that Ivan is a good friend of James Reid?! Yes, they started together in the "PBB Teen Clash of 2010"  where James was hailed as the big winner!

In the GMA Telebabad TV series "Meant to Be," Ivan is playing the character of Ethan Spencer–Hughes, a half-British, half-Filipino leading man of Barbie Forteza!

Great to meet you again brother Ivan! See you again on the coming days! God bless and more power on your showbiz comeback! 01/25/2017 (RCB)

Through the Years with Ken Chan

We already met with today's hottest chinito actor Ken Chan wayback in 2014. That was during the launch of his very first self-titled album.

In 2015, we met very often. The first one was during our set visit in his previous afternoon teleserye "Healing Hearts." And then before the year end, we had a Kapuso Christmas party and that time, he was already playing the character of "Destiny Rose."

Now in 2016, we had a great time during the GMA Bloggers' Style Camp where he won the most number of awards. And he was also prepping up for his upcoming concert "My Destiny."

Check out below my three years with my chinito brother Ken Chan:

Well to sum up our years:
   2014 - album
   2015 - TV series
   2016 - concert

In 2017, what do you think will be our major project with Ken? Will wait and see! Ken Chan and Rocky Chua truly rule! (RCB)

Derrick Monasterio Launches his Self-Titled Album

From a tween heartthrob to an actor to a hunk and now... to a singer!

Kapuso young star Derrick Monasterio proves his other talent aside from being an actor. This time as a singer. He launched his newest album, a self-titled album under GMA Records containing love songs and his choice of music.

The album contains six tracks, the love songs namely "Kailangan Kita," "Batobalani," "Give Me One More Chance," "Kailangan Mo, Kailangan Ko," "Pa'no Nga Ba?" and "Reyna" with bonus track called "Ang Aking Puso," a duet with Julie Anne San Jose.

Except from "Kailangan Kita," all the songs in his album were all original. "Kailangan Kita" is an original composition of Ogie Alcasid. Derrick is so thankful for Ogie who let him revive the song for free.

During our blogcon, Derrick gave samples singing some of the tracks in his album. He even shared kulitan moments with us the bloggers. And he gave funny comments with his co-stars and real-life friends Bea Binene and Alden Richards.

Well, just like Derrick who is now a fitness enthusiast, I've conducted a fitness video interview with him. He gave some workout and diet tips. I'll share the said video interview with him on my fitness and running blog Runner Rocky.

Meanwhile, here are our selfie and wacky shots with Derrick after the blogcon:

Derrick is currently leading in the hit afternoon teleserye "Hanggang Makita Kang Muli" pairing him with friend Bea Binene. According to him, this TV series is one of the best project he had ever done. The story is so unique and interesting.

Great one Derrick! More power on your singing and acting career! More new projects to come. (RCB)

Dingdong Dantes Rocks the Christmas

Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes also graced the GMA Christmas 2016 bloggers'conference dubbed as "PaGMAmamahalan" BlogCon. On the said event, Dingdong discussed about #NowPh, an advocacy to fight the climate change wherein he is the ambassador.

In my health and fitness blog Runner Rocky, I've already shared our story about #NowPh. So this time here in Bits of Rocks, let me share with you more on our selfies and photos together. Here they go:

I've first met Dingdong in 2012 during the "Protege" days wherein he was the main host together with Carla Abellana. Afterwards, we've been together in different events on the succeeding months including the launch of his horror-comedy flick "Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles."

Great that after a year, we met again for this exciting environmental campaign.

I would also like to congratulate Dingdong for being a new proud father to a cute baby girl and a loving husband to the beautiful Marian Rivera-Dantes! God bless and Merry Christmas! (RCB)

#ThrowbackThursday: "My Husband's Lover" Days with Tom Rodriguez

Exactly two years ago, Tom Rodriguez got his breakthrough role in Primetime TV series as Vincent Soriano in GMA's teleserye, "My Husband's Lover."

During our set visit in Vincent's car shop, Tom revealed how challenging the said character and why he accepted the said role of a bisexual male.

Today, Tom returned in Telebabad playing another iconic role - Sergio Santibanez in the Kapuso's 2015 remake of "Marimar" pairing him to Megan Young.

My last meetup with Tom was just this July 2015 during the Kapuso 65TH Year Anniversary Celebration in MOA Arena. Here is our photo together during the said event:

Keep up the good work Tom! See you again soon! More new exciting characters to come! (RCB)

#ThrowbackThursday: "The Janitor" Days with Dennis Trillo

It's another #ThrowbackThursday today. And for this day, let me share with you our #tbt moment with Dennis Trillo one year ago.

Here is one of our cool photos together:

That was during the blogcon of Dennis' Cinemalaya's award-winning movie, "The Janitor" where he played a secret agent camoflauging himself as a janitor.

This year, I met Dennis again for his romance film with Maja Salvador and Richard Yap called "You're Still the One."

And of course, Dennis now portrays the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) icon, Felix Manalo.

Great one Dennis! You're truly a versatile actor of the country. Hope to see you again! (RCB)
