Movie Review: 'Bride for Rent' Combines Romance, 'Kilig,' and Family Values!

"Isn't it Exciting?" ... Yes it's exciting!
"Isn't it Amazing?" ... Yes it's amazing!
"Isn't  it Surprising?" ... Yes it's surprising!

Kim Chiu and Xian Lim created another record, this time in the blockbuster hit! Their movie "Bride for Rent" is undeniably one of the greatest movies Star Cinema had produced. And yes, this rom-com film is another candidate to be the next highest grossing Pinoy movie of all time!

I got curious why this movie received many positive feedback from the viewers and from the netizens. So, I decided to watch the film and found the reasons why.

At first, I thought that this movie is another ordinary romance-comedy flick that only aims to spread 'kilig' to the audience. But definitely, it's not! One of the noticeably good features of this movie is that, it is full of family values and moral lessons!

First, it emphasized the importance of marriage. In our current generation, we are exposed to the different movies and TV series tackling 'kabit,'  mistress, or third party. But this film broke the trends! It gave inspiration to married couples and inspired the future grooms and brides to the importance of marriage vows. I love the part how the film inserted interviews of real-life couples sharing inspirational stories about their weddings!

Second, it paid attention to the importance of family in our lives. Kim and Xian who were playing Rocky and Rocco in the film came from two different families with two different statues. Rocky was the breadwinner of their family. She didn't afraid to take different challenges just to help her family. On the other way around, Rocco is raised as a rich kid. But even though he's full of wealth, he's unhappy because of his issue with his father (played by Tirso Cruz III). But in the end, Rocco resolved the conflict with his father and open a happy relationship with him.

The love team KimXi once more didn't failed us to give different 'kilig' moments. Kim and Xian compromise one another. They were truly a perfect match in the movie. Watching them together in this film seems like watching an Asianovela. The complete ingredients everyone is looking for in our favorite Koreanovela were all there in the tandem of Kim Chiu and Xian Lim!

Here is the full trailer of "Bride for Rent:"

My favorite part in this movie is the scene where Rocky fantasized that Rocco is kissing her. While Rocky is instructing Rocco to do more household chores in the kitchen, Rocco came wet and hot looking at her (while the movie's theme song "Chinito" was playing as the background music) then kissed her! "Sobrang nakakakilig ang eksenang iyon!"

In terms of acting, I can say that Kim is "lalong gumagaling!" She is perfect and a very good actress in playing 'kwela' roles. "Magaan panuorin, hindi masyadong madrama!" But of course she can play heavy drama as well as proven by her previous movies and TV series. On the other hand, Xian is too hot to handle in this movie. He can effectively portray his spoiled-brad character in the story. I love how he dressed up in this film!

What captivates my heart in this movie?! Well, its theme song! The song "Chinito" popularized by Ms, Yeng Constantino which is the movie's OST is also my theme song of my current love life! "Kaya relate much ako dito" adding the fact that Kim's character as Rocky is also my real name! "Saan ka pa!"

Here is the cool music video of "Chinito" with romantic clips from the movie:

Some of the memorable lines from this movie which registered in my mind are the following:

"The Person You Love Most is the Person Who Hurts You Most"
 - Lala (Pilita Corales)

"You Are a Good Person if You Can Say Sorry..."
- Rocky (Kim Chiu)

After watching this movie, it feels like "gusto ko na ring mag-asawa!" I love the story, I love the plot, I love the values, I love the characters, I love the theme song...ang galing ng Star Cinema! Kudos!

Ms. Mae Czarina Cruz, the director of the movies like "24/7 in Love" and "She's the One" is also the lady behind this film! Congrat direk for another successful movie! Looking forward for your new masterpiece as well as KimXi's third movie together! Two thumbs up guys! (RCB)

Movie Review: 'Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy' Proves Vice Ganda's Versatility!

And the fourth 39TH Metro Manila Film  Festival (MMFF) 2013 movie that we watched is no other than the Star Cinema and Vice Ganda's starrer, the comedy film "Boy Girl Bakla Tomboy!"

Well, the reasons why I decided to watch the said movie is first, to see how Vice Ganda portray the four different characters with four genders; second, to see why it was defeated by "My Little Bossings," and third, to compare this movie against his last year's top-grossing "Sisterakas!"

What I love most about this movie is the talent of Vice Ganda to portray four different roles with four different genders! In the movie, Vice's characters were quadruplet! He was able to give life to the girl named Girlie, to the boy Peter, to the gay Mark, and to the tomboy Panying! Even though the four characters were played by only one actor, we can easily distinguish one from another! "Hindi mo masasabing si Vice lang mag-isa ang gumaganap ng isang role!" For me, of the four characters, I love the girl and the tomboy! Yes, "ang galing-galing gumanap ni Vice na girl at tomboy!" "Sa bakla normal lang  kase niya 'un, 'ung boy medyo pilit pa at di ako convinced." But the girl and the tomboy characters, perfect! Vice played them very well!

Yes I admit, I love to watch a movie or TV series with dual or triple roles! That's why I love the teleserye of Claudine Barretto before which was "Saan Ka Man Naroroon" (1999) where she played the triplet Rosario, Rosenda, and Rosemarie; the TV series of Lorna Tolentino before which was "Kaytagal Kang Hinintay" (2002) where she played the twin Lorea and Lorinda; and the Coco Martin's hit action-drama serye "Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin" (2011) where he portrayed the twins Javier and Alexander! "Tamo kabisado ko pa! Hahaha!" And yes, if I was given a chance to play a character in a movie or in a TV series, I want the dual role, the twin where one is bida  and the other is kontrabida like what Coco Martin played in his teleserye!

The movie is also full of fun! You will laugh in every scene of Vice Ganda! Very natural the way he cracked jokes! It seems like you're watching "It's Showtime" and "Gandang Gabi Vice!" The movie has a touch of live comedy!

Here is the full trailer of the movie:

I also love the theme song of the movie! It's "Whoops Kirri" which is revived by Vice Ganda himself! "Ang kulit lang!"

Here is the music video of their movie's theme song. The music video will truly give us a four-times of laughter!

I also observed that Vice's four characters were inspired by four different celebrities. The girl depicts Ruffa Gutierrez,  the boy is the K-Pop G-Dragon,  the gay definitely is no other than himself, and the tomboy is either Charice or Aiza Seguerra! Agree?!

The story also have a simple plot just like "My Little Bossings." "No kidnappan, no barilan," unlike the traditional Pinoy comedy films we used to grew up with!

It is also family-centered. In a way, we can get moral values in the story - the essence of close family ties! Whatever happens, your family will always be your family! "Kayo-kayo din ang magtutulungan sa huli"  Acceptance ruled!

The negative side of the film, first, some of the casts seemed like 'wall flowers,' useless, no gravity, sayang! Just like the characters of Cristine Reyes, JC De Vera,  and Ejay Falcon. Though we all know that they were already big stars, they look like supporting casts, or better say, "nagmukhang 'in special participation' lang sila sa movie! Lack of significant roles in the movie. What more, the love team of Bobby Andrews  and Angelu De Leon, "nagmukhang pang-display!" They may play better roles in the movie if given a chance! "Sayang ang hit love team 'nung 90's  na hinintay ng mga tao"  for a reunion movie! The worst is, "bakla pa ata 'ung role ni Bobby sa movie di pa na-emphasize ng maayos!" Maybe it's better to see that Bobby and Mark, the gay character of Vice were close friends. "Un bang bestfriend sila, magka-amiga"  since thy both gay! Or should be better if Bobby is the sidekick of the gay Vice to add more impact!

And the second thing is, "parang may kulang sa movie. Na parang may hinahanap ka pa." Not that fully satisfied although I love the happy ending in the finale! "Tsaka bakit ganun, tinanggal 'ung nunal ni Girlie sa middle part?!" "Sayang di tuloy naging makatotohanan! 'Un pa naman nagdala sa girl version ni Vice!" Too much of practical jokes in that part loosen the story!

Well if they ironed out those negative sides of the film, maybe "Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy" is No. 1 in the top-grossing race defeating Vic Sottos's "My Little Bossings!" And it will definitely surpass the success of Vice's last year's film "Sisterakas!" What do you think?!

But overall, this movie is 100% fun. It you wan to relax, laugh, and feel stress free, definitely you should watch the movie! The credit is still for Vice for effectively giving us four different characters! Two thumbs up Vice Ganda! "Ang galing mo!" (RCB)

24 Good Things About '24/7 in Love!'

"24/ 7 in Love" is the biggest movie offering of the year which combines the brightest and the biggest stars of the country. This is Star Magic's treat to its 20 years success being the country's strongest and No.1 talent center.

The movie is now a box-office hit! On its first day of showing last November 21, 2012, it earned a whooping Php10 Million! People were truly captivated by the movie!

Well, I have list down the reasons why "24/7 in Love" is a good movie to watch and why people were falling in love with it.

Here are the 24 Good Reasons to Watch "24/7 in Love:"

1.) This is the very first time in Philippine Cinema that there is a movie with 7 Episodes! Before, we  used to love movie in trilogy or in 3 episodes (like the "Shake, Rattle, in Roll" series). Until Star Cinema started a movie with 5 episodes ("Cinco") and now they pioneered a 7-Episode movie via "24/7 in Love." It's another breakthrough in the history of Philippine movie industry!

2.) Another first movie which brings together the 15 biggest and the brightest stars of the country. Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, Angelica Panganiban, Bea Alonzo, Zanjoe Marudo, Xyriel Ann Manabat, Zaijan Jaranila, Maja Salvador, Diether Ocampo, Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla, Pokwang, Sam Milby, Gerald Anderson, and Kim Chiu were all in the leading roles! And take note, billing is not an issue among them!

3.) The movie is not all about an ordinary love story. Instead, it gives life to 7 different love stories such as friendship love, puppy love, age-doesn't matter love, genderless love, love with no status, true love, and love of work to name a few!

4.) The movie features a real-life love teams like Zanjoe Marudo-Bea Alonzo and John lloyd Cruz-Angelica Panganiban.

5.) The movie also features the hottest and the most-loved love teams in the country namely the KathNiel (Kathyrn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla) and the Kimerald (Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson).

6.) The movie marks the very much awaited reunion of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson. Kimerald was last seen in the movie "'Till My Heartaches End" two years ago. Fans were truly missing them together. Their episode in the movie was the strongest and well-supported by viewers!

7.) The movie is experimental! It gives chance to paired for the first time Pokwang and Sam Milby and Dither Ocampo and Maja Salvador. Yup, the two pairs were not yet paired before in either movie or TV Series Projects! Their chemistry as pairs were all tested in the movie!

8.) The movie gives another challenging role for the country's Ultimate Heartthrob and Leading Man Mr. Piolo Pascual. Piolo's character in their episode is extra-ordinary as he portrayed a 35-year old man having a mind of a 7-year old. He removed for the meantime his hunk and sexy hot image to give justice to his character!

9.) Aside from Piolo, Zanjoe Marudo was also given a challenging role in the movie as he played a gay-role in the movie. This is also his very first time to play the said role in the big screen although he was seen before playing gay characters in some segments of "Banana Splits."

10.) The movie pays tribute to the hit OPM music. Yes, some of the classic OPM love songs we used to love before were used as OST in the different episodes of the movie. Some of these were "Bakit Di Totohanin," "Mr. Cupido,"  and "Nanghihinayang."

11.) The movie is hemmed by four young directors namely Mae Cruz, Dado Lumibao, John-D Lazatin, and Frasco Mortiz.

A Creative Movie Poster of the Movie!

12.) The country's most-love Prince of Indie Films turning Mainstream Primetime Actor Coco Martin has a special part in the movie. Though he only played a cameo role in the film, his character is very significant as he portrayed Dante. Loud screams followed when he appeared in one of the episodes of the movie.
13.) For the first time, comedy actress Pokwang will have a bed scene! Yeah, she is so lucky to have different sexy scenes with the country's hunk rockoustic actor Sam Milby!

14.) The movie also serves as a 'hunk fest!'  You will ask for an extra rice as the Star Magic hunk actors (except for Piolo Pascual) namely Sam Milby, Zanjoe Marudo, Diether Ocampo, and Gerald Anderson exposed their sexy yummy hot bodies in their respective episodes! Sizzling!

15.) We love the way how the 7 stories in the movie were interconnected in the end. You will see how the stories will related to each other in the finale.

16.) The movie offers all the genres - drama, comedy, action, romance, sexy. Each episode gives a unique flavor which differs the story from one another!

17.) Each story in the movie leaves a lesson in life. It's not just a collection of love stories which intended to put 'kilig' in the audience. Rather, it gives something meaningful to the audience after watching the film.

18.) The movie gives equal opportunities to each Star Magic talent. Even though some of the stars already have big names, they still manage to play small roles in the movie like Coco Martin, Kaye Abad, and Joem Bascon. The movie is truly a very own Star Magic movie!

19.) The official movie poster of the movie is another best and creative poster Star Cinema ever produced. It gives equality to the stars breaking the issue of billing. And take note, there's no name of stars in the poster. The pictures speak for themselves proving how known they were!

20.) The movie also gives chance for the newbie talents to take part in the film even on its official soundtrack. Newbies Young JV and Myrtle Sarroza starred in the music video instead of giving the tasks to other big stars or singers of the talent center.

21.) The movie even produced life-sized photo boards of the 15 lead casts which is also another proofs how huge this movie is!

22.) It's good to know that the movie directors are able to put 7 stories in one big movie with equal emphasis and with equal length of time. It seems that you're having a movie marathon while watching the film since you are seeing 7 different stories!

23.) Everyone can relate to the film since aside from the different love stories featured in the film, the "end of the world" issue was also tackled! I love how the film started with Marc Logan reporting making you feel like watching a documentary-drama!

24.) And last but not the least, it's for you to find out after watching the movie!

Truly, "24/7 in Love" is another great movie from Star Cinema! Another milestone has been achieved because of this movie. Two thumbs up and congratulations to its success! Good job! (RCB)

John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo's Tandem is a Blockbuster Hit!

The tandem of John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo or better known as "Labers" which is currently celebrating its 10TH year anniversary once more proves its dominance in the blockbuster record. Their recent romance-movie "The Mistress" from Star Cinema now took the second spot of the All-Time Top Grossing Films in the Philippines!

I got chance to talk, interview, and mingle (aside from having picture-taking together) with the country's hottest love team during the Blog Con of their movie. We asked interesting questions about them and about their movie. I even got curious how their love team stays stronger for 10 years now. Lloydie revealed that, friendship is the secret! "Hindi kami tatagal ng 10 years kung naging kami in real-life," Lloydie revealed.

Actually, this was the second time that I met Lloydie. The first one was during the grand presscon of "Unofficially Yours," his first movie team-up with my female counterpart Ms. Angel Locsin. The said movie which was Star Cinema's 2012 Valentine's movie offering was another top-grosser film!

The event also served as my chance to meet the beautiful Ms. Bea Alonzo. Yes, that was my first time to meet Bea in person and to have a "rubbing elbow" with her! She is truly kind in person! Another lady who is beautiful inside and out!

In the movie, Bea and Lloydie portrayed a much mature roles far from their previous movie characters. For the first time, Bea plays a mistress! Well, if you didn't yet able to watch the movie, you may check out its full trailer below.

In "The Mistress," Lloydie is playing the character of JD, the lover while Bea is Sari, the mistress of the benefactor portrayed by Mr. Ronaldo Valdez. Ms. Hilda Koronel completed the four-sided love affair playing Ronaldo's wife!

After this blockbuster movie, Bea and John Lloyd return on TV via their newest teleserye "A Beautiful Affair." And I'm also excited to meet them again next week! Exciting!

Two thumbs up and more power Bea and Lloydie! c",)

The Unexpected Twists in 'Segunda Mano!'

I could say that "Segunda Mano" is one of the best movies I have watched this year! Though it was not a pure horror everyone is thinking of, the story brings us more unexpected twists!

Last night, I watched the said movie with my GF in SM Mall of Asia! Originally, we were planning to watch "Shake, Rattle, and Roll 13." We came in the mall at around 7pm. But the next movie hour for SSR13 was at 11:30pm. So we decided to watch our second choice - "Segunda Mano!" The next movie hour of this horror flick from Star Cinema was at 9pm.

While waiting for the hour of showing, we roamed around the mall and spent sweet night together!

At around 8pm, we decided to go up the movie house. It was shocking to see that many people were falling inline for the said movie. As we have seen, "Segunda Mano" has the most number of viewers next to "Enteng Ng Ina Mo!"

People were very excited to watch this fourth horror movie of Ms. Kris Aquino. As the light was turned off in the theater, people were shouting!

In the beginning of the movie, you may say that it's an ordinary horror film with a very predictable plot! The owner of the red bag was revealed upon the start of the story! You will eventually know who is the ghost in the story who keeps on haunting the character of Kris Aquino as Mabel!

But as the story progresses, in the middle and in the last part of the movie, you will appreciate its essence! You will witness more twists and revelations you wouldn't expect! The purpose of the ghost haunting Mabel, the real killer in the story, the reason behind the lost of Mabel's little sister Marie, and the relationship of the characters of Kris Aquino as Mabel and Angelica Panganiban as Mariella were some of the twists in the film that surprised the audience!

In the movie, I can say that Ms. Kris Aquino is not only the Philippine's Horror Queen. She revives her previous title being the "Massacre Queen!" Yup, you will witness a masscre scene in this movie which once brightened the career of Ms. Kris way back in 90's (Remember "The Elsa Castillo Story?")!

There is also a touch of comedy in this movie! I love the cats which serve as 'pandayang pang-gulat', the character of Mosang which gives humor to the story, and of course the character of Ms. Bangs Garcia who is a 'kikay' bestfriend-sidekick of Kris! I bet Bangs for the Best Supporting Actress Award for this movie!

I would recommend you guys to watch this movie. In the end, you will find out that it's worthy! "Sulit na sulit ang pera mo at ang pag-uwi ko ng gabi kagabi!" Hehehe...I came home last night at around 12:45am! c",)
